Echo & Narcissus

(Echo)
Never in my life had I promised
But on this day I will solemnly swear,
To love you eternally as a bird
That has fallen in love with the air.
(Narcissus)
What is it about mere words,
That makes them so amorphously important?
Love, bird, air?
Your discursiveness only makes me reluctant.
Forgive me if my words fail to move you
But nothing else I can offer,
True love is all I have to give
And your rejection truly makes me suffer.
There is only redundancy in your words
And to say truth, you have spoken of nothing.
Your manner is successfully lugubrious
Speaking of birds, love and suffering.

Why do you twist my words with yours,
Not wanting to see the truth beyond them?
I ache to see you so unyielding and cold,
And how your stone heart only hardens.
I too can be nondiscriptive as you are,
And of love too, I am able.
But I rather live in my cruel reality,
Instead of living in your unmistakably fable.
Love unfilled
Is the world’s greatest pain,
Today I will silence my heart.
Never shall my love speak again…
Wonder thru life as you do
And do not expect me to follow;
For like you said, my heart is made of stone
It is cold, hard and hollow…

Alice in wonderland

In a world of paper flowers, where the light would never end;
lived a girl whom I loved, love and will love till the end.
In a world of fantasy or perhaps even more realistic then mine---
lived my friend Alice, the one I’ve left behind.

“Wonderland”,  that’s the name I’ve given it.
"Wonderland", because you truly never live in it.
Alice in wonderland and a world of paper flowers,
Alice my best friend and my constant wonder solver.

She lived deep inside herself with nothing to bring her out,
she lived the way I did after I started to doubt.
I loved her then...and I love her now although I’m not with her.
I hope she’ll remember me and understand it hurts and why I had to leave her.

Now the wind blows harder and harder and the paper flowers won’t hold,
Now it’s no longer “wonderland” but “thunder land” and no, not even the strongest fantasies would hold.

I left the fantasies to set my feet on the ground,
I left my friend Alice, my fantasies...my doubts.
I left what I grew up with, yes my friend Alice and our world,
I left my fantasies made of paper...flowers that would never hold.

So I wrote this poem when I was in high school. Oh the high school days... And for some odd reason, "Alice in wonderland" the book, was just now starting to interest me very much. Hence the pirate title above. It just so happens that my best friend from elementary & till this day is also named Alice. There were some moments there in life when I started seeing life in a different light. I had started reading, so I went back to writing...again. This is what I came up with. I wrote this for her.
